To all our faithful readers a big apology from our family for the delay in publishing our most recent post about our one day in Cesky Krumlov. We’re in the process of planning our next big trip to Portugal and I hadn’t realized how much there was still left to do. With everything pretty much now booked and under control for our visit to Portugal, I can get back to doing what I love: writing! Yay!

Note: This post is a little different than our regular posts. Why, you may ask? Well, this one was written by Sydney!! She’s co-photographer with me and has totally trained me in the art of Instagram (check out our Insta page by the way!) but this is her first post. We decided to do a two part post: the first, Cesky Krumlov from a kid’s point of view (well, at 13 not quite a “kid” anymore) and the second, Cesky Krumlov from my point of view. Mine will come next week. Personally, I think she did a great job!

A Teen’s Perspective: One Day in Cesky Krumlov

We left Prague for Cesky Krumlov. After Cesky Krumlov, we travelled to Budapest.

When we got to Cesky Krumlov it was later in the day because we visited the village of Tabor but we still got a lot done. My favourite parts were the river, the castle, the views, and the rooftops.

Our apartment wasn’t ready at first so we went to Papa’s for lunch and the food there was really good and you got to look out over the river while you eat. I had the onion rings and the salmon pasta but personally, I liked Dad’s prosciutto, arugula, and cheese pizza better.

After lunch we checked into our apartment at Castle View Apartments. It was a little hard to find at first but we found it. When we got there Lucas, Caiden and I decided who got to sleep in the beds and who had to sleep on the couch. Lucas had to sleep on the couch!

The balcony was my favorite part. The view was breathtaking and it didn’t suck when Lucas and Caiden locked me out. I could sit out there for hours. We had a perfect view of the castle and all of the really pretty rooftops. There were unique peaks on all of the houses.

I took a lot of photos of mom and dad’s wine glasses out on the balcony with the castle in the background.

The apartment was really cool and my brothers and I had a lot of fun.

One day in Cesky Krumlov? Do a Tour & Visit the Castle!

We had a tour with Krumlov Tours booked for just 30 minutes after we checked in to our apartment. We met outside the apartment and her name was Katalena. We walked up to a look out point and the view was amazing. It was sooo pretty. We walked around the town and then went up to the castle. We had to walk up a lot of slopes but it was fun.

We walked towards the garden. The garden was super pretty. There were flowers and trees. At the end of the garden there was pond filled with hundreds of lily pads and there were ducks all throughout them.

After our tour, we walked up the stairs to the top of the castle tower. The view from the tower was really amazing. You could see the bears that live in the moat below from the top of the tower. (Mom will tell you about the bears) Caiden and I found them cool.

After the tower we went through the streets of Cesky Krumlov looking at all the amazingly beautiful buildings. They were all covered in dirt and muck during the communism period but they are working on returning them to their original form by looking at old documents. They can’t paint over anything until they know that’s what it looked like 100%.

During our one day in Cesky Krumlov we also looked at moldavite in the jewellery stores. Moldavite is rock made from an asteroid that hit a hunk of rock creating a moldavite mine. The rock is dark green but when you put a flashlight on it, the rock turns light green that almost looks like it’s see-through.

Explore the Vltava River!

One of my favorite parts about Cesky Krumlov is the river. The Vltava River carries on from Prague to Cesky Krumlov then keeps going. We were going to raft down the river but with only one day in Cesky Krumlov, we didn’t have time.

For dinner we went to a small restaurant that was kinda fancy. It was called Jakub. We ate outside. We watched the trucks that were trying to deliver food get stuck while they were trying to get around the tiny street and small turns. The food there was really good. We got to look at all the old buildings when we were eating.

The next morning our driver was coming at 10:30 to bring us to Budapest. We got up early and walked around Cesky Krumlov while none of the tour buses were there. I really enjoyed walking around while no one was out. You could get way better photos. We walked all around Cesky Krumlov which didn’t take too long. The town is very small. We walked around the river which was really pretty. It was really calm walking through the streets because none of the buses were there yet.

We had breakfast at an old hotel. It was right in town square so we could watch more and more people arrive for the day. After breakfast, we walked around town square for a bit and looked at all the beautiful buildings again. Then our driver came to pick us up. Lucas, Caiden and I really didn’t want to leave. We really enjoyed our one day in Cesky Krumlov.

I love this perspective, I’m impressed with the article and photos. Nice work! I absolutely loved my time in Cesky Krumlov. I wish I had more time to browse the shops, especially those with moldavite jewelry.

First of all, bravo Sydney! Very impressive – you write extremely well and took some great photos too! I especially like the creative shot on the balcony with the wine glasses.
I have visited this little village, and dined at Jakub too. I hope you enjoyed writing this post as I did reading it! Keep it up, you have a natural talent.

I’m very impressed-Sydney did a great job both on the writing and photography. She described her food and activities quite well along with how she and her brothers felt about everything. She’ll be a blogger in no time and a great assistant now!

Great post Sydney! It is always good to get a different point of view about a place, and I never thought of asking my son.. so he might be given a challenge! I look forward to reading more of your work.

Awesome to read that you had a great time and to see what teens notice and what they find enjoyable, it’s great that you really loved the culture and scenery and obviously have the travel bug already.

Great post Sydney, it’s full of colourful description. I like the bits about being locked out on the balcony (I hope you got your own back!) and photographing Mum and Dad’s wine glasses! I haven’t been there, although I’ve been to Prague. I hope i can go some day.

Really great hearing how Sydney saw the city. It will be nice to contrast that with Joanne’s. Please tell Sydney that I enjoyed her post. I’d like to see some Moldavite.
