If you are a family of five or more travelling to Budapest you have to check out Entre Amis Budapest. Our Budapest family apartment was spacious, reasonably priced and in a great location: all requirements for a family visiting Budapest with kids.
Entre Amis is a small apartment rental company in Budapest owned by Francoise and her husband. They split their time between Budapest and Belgium and their wonderful manager Beti handles everything when they aren’t in the city. ‘Entre Amis’ is french for ‘Between Friends’ and from our first contact with Francoise, that is exactly how we felt.
Budapest Apartments: Location, Location, Location!
Entre Amis has, at present, six apartments. All are located near the famous Hungarian Opera House. Our Budapest family apartment was only a 3 minute walk to the Opera Metro stop which will bring you to the Terror Museum, Vorosmarty Ter (near the Chain Bridge) or the Szechenyi Baths and Heroes Square in City Park. It’s also very close to the eclectic Jewish Quarter. Needless to say, the location of this Budapest family apartment is superb!
NOTE: By the way, if you are a large family visiting Budapest, don’t forget to check out the 24 hour group metro pass. At the time of this post it was the best pass for our family of five. The one pass covers up to five people travelling together for 24 hrs unlimited travel. It even covers some trains! You can get more information on the Budapest metro webpage.
The apartments owned by Entre Amis vary in size and number of beds and can accommodate from 1 to 10 people. As those with large families know, it’s not easy to find an apartment that can sleep families with three or more children. These Budapest family apartments are also great for those travelling with extended family which makes them perfect for any travelling family, no matter the size or age demographic.
Budapest Family Apartment: Our Choice was …
We stayed in the Entre Amis XXL apartment which was fantastic. It was located on the 1st floor on Hajos Utca. For travellers from North America, remember the 1st floor is not the ground floor.
Hajos Utca is a pedestrian only street with many small cafes. (Our favourite breakfast spot was just next door at Sophia.) The apartment had two balconies and despite being near some nightlife, we didn’t find it loud at all. The balconies were a great place to relax before heading to dinner and once we arrived back ‘home’.
Safety and Security: Budapest with Kids
The Entre Amis XXL apartment is in a very safe area but the apartment owners definitely have safety in mind. As a family travelling with children, this was incredibly important for us. A security code needs to be entered in order to open the main door of the building and the apartment door itself is triple locked with a metal screen.
The Details We Loved that Made this Budapest Family Apartment Exceptional
The interior of the apartment was unlike anything we had ever seen. The high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and original wooden floors were gorgeous.
The kitchen was well equipped with everything a family could want. There was plenty of counter space for preparing meals and Francoise and her team provided basic spices and cooking items as well as coffee (although honestly, I try to avoid cooking when on vacation). There was even a dishwasher!
The four bedrooms were more than enough for our family of five to each have their own room. That said, Caiden didn’t want to sleep in a room by himself so he chose to sleep in a bedroom with his sister as it was huge and there were two double beds in that room.
That left an extra room with two twin beds that we didn’t even use!
The master bedroom was large and had a wonderful amount of storage space. That meant we weren’t living out of a suitcase during our stay.
Best of all? There was air conditioning, a washer and dryer and two bathrooms! The ability to clean clothing and not fight for bathroom space made for a very happy mom.

Hi Joanne, thank you so so much for writing such wonderful things about our apartment in Budapest!
We recently had a booking request mentioning your blog and I must say, what I read was beyond anything I could have hoped for! In the near future, we’ll start renting out apartments in Antwerp Belgium as well. Antwerp is a beautiful city, it’s my home town.
We’d like to give a 15% discount to anyone who mentions your blog from now on.
Thanks again and I hope you’re having a great summer!
Take care
Françoise

This looks like a really beautiful and relaxing place to stay. We actually stayed in a very similar place to this, in fact it looks very alike but our apartment was smaller, but there is only two of us! We don’t usually stay in apartments, usually hostels, but this was pre backpacking days and just a trip, plus apartments in Budapest are really reasonably priced.

Budapest was our very first family vacation in 2002! I wish this beautiful places was known to us then, I love how central it is and how wonderfully you’ve shared it. I cannot wait to visit Hungary again as an adult and enjoy it!

Wow, this place looks amazing! I love how big the kitchen and the living room are.
It’s always important for us to have a kitchen during our trips as my daughter is quite a picky eater and does not specially fancy sitting on restaurants!

Looks so cozy! A home away from home in a foreign city could be comforting beyond imagination. I love choosing an apartment with kitchen so I can cook up quick meals.

You guys are so lucky. So this apartment can fit an additional two or three people? How much was it?

I loved Budapest but the place we stayed definitely wasn’t as nice as this, so I’ll note it for next time!
Joanne · January 5, 2019 at 5:57 pm
Hi Cathlin. It really was wonderful! They also have smaller apartments if your group isn’t as big as ours.

Great post! I love to get this kind of nitty gritty on places to stay. Just curious, how long did you stay in this apartment? Did you stay anywhere else while you were in Budapest? Thanks!
Joanne · December 12, 2018 at 11:57 pm
Hi Michael. We stayed for six nights. For us it was the perfect amount of time in Budapest. It allowed for a day trip outside the city and a relaxing visit to the key places we wanted to visit. We didn’t stay anywhere else in Budapest but Entre Amis has several other apartments as well if you were looking for something a little different.
