Photography and Barbados go together like cookies and milk! While on holiday last March, we went in search of the most instagrammable locations in Barbados.

Background to our Search for the Most Instagrammable Locations in Barbados

I’ve loved photography since I was a little girl. I used to travel everywhere with my little black camera with the disposable square flash attached to the top. Photography has come a long way since then but whether you’re seeking instagrammable locations in Barbados or still shooting old school with an actual camera, you’ve picked the right location!

Having never visited Barbados before, we didn’t really know what to expect when we decided to travel there for March Break. My parents had visited when I was a little girl and returned with beautiful pictures of Barbados but we didn’t know if these incredible locations would be close to the same today. We did our research before leaving home and the Instagram photos of Barbados we found were still as amazing as when my parents visited. But we wondered, was such beauty partially created by photoshop?

It didn’t take long after our arrival for us to discover an amazingly beautiful island filled with stunning lush vegetation, calm peaceful waters, sandy beaches and exciting wildlife. Barbados is a photographer’s paradise! Those in Barbados and searching for the perfect Instagram location will have no difficulty finding stunning landscapes, historic buildings and so much more.

To get the best pictures of Barbados, you need to be willing to explore a little. While your hotel, resort or apartment grounds will undoubtedly be lovely, there are stunning views all over this small island. Don’t be afraid to explore.

We took a day trip around the island, travelled down the west coast on a catamaran and rented a car so we could drive in Barbados and explore on our own.

Our Five Most Instagrammable Locations in Barbados

1. Bathsheba

Bathsheba rests on the eastern side of Barbados, on the Atlantic Ocean. The area isn’t large but it really is, in our view, the best instagrammable location in Barbados. There are so many options along this coast. With pounding waves and a variety of different shaped rocks of varying sizes, each background will be different and unique.

You’ll be able to get many amazing Instagram pictures including:

  • A series of these amazing ocean battered rocks

2. Animal Flower Cave

Animal Flower Cave is found on the north coast of the island where the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea meet. This location is truly a photographer’s paradise and is our second favourite instagrammable location in Barbados. As you arrive, explore to right of the cave entrance. The amazing cliffs and waves will make an incredible backdrop for amazing photos.

Next, walk through the open-air restaurant to view the cliffs on the left-hand side of the caves. These are amazingly totally different than those to the right. After each strong wave, enjoy the view of water shooting up through the crevices and rolling down the cliff edges like a waterfall.

Stunning! You can also walk on top of the cliff like in this photo.

If you’re up for a walk, you can wander over to these cliffs for a different perspective.

As you walk around, you’ll likely have a chance to meet some sheep, goats or other animals that call the cave area their home. We had a cute goat try to make friends with us as we were purchasing our tickets for the cave.

While we didn’t see any, I’ve also heard that the Animal Flower Cave area is one of the best places to see humpback whales so keep your eyes open!

Your final stop (not first because you may want to get wet!), is a visit to the caves themselves. Pay for admission inside the restaurant and your guide will bring you through the entry, down the steep coral steps for an incredible variety of photo opportunities.

Enjoy viewing the ocean through the cliff openings. There are many and they vary in size. If you’re brave, stand in front of a few for a beautiful shadowed shot.

We wouldn’t let them get too close to the opening but it still came out nicely.

Make sure to catch the colourful walls inside the cave and in the end, hop in the inner cave pool for more incredible pictures that your insta followers are going to love! It’s been called the original infinity pool.

I didn’t quite get that perfect shot because I didn’t want the kids to get too close to the edge but the official website has some great examples of wonderful Instagram-worthy photos taken from inside the caves that you may want to recreate so check them out!

3. Cherry Tree Hill

Cherry Tree Hill overlooks St. Andrew’s Parish, or as the Bajans call the area, the Scotland District. While you won’t find many cherry trees there now, you will find mahogany trees, sugar cane and a phenomenal view of the windswept eastern coast of the island.

Whether taking a day trip or exploring in a rental car, make sure you stop at these three locations for breath-stopping views.

Tip: Being from Canada, we were really unfamiliar with driving on the left side of the road so in planning our visit to Barbados, we decided to hire a guide to take us on a tour around the island for a day to find these first three amazing instagrammable places in Barbados.

While originally hesitant to drive in Barbados as we weren’t sure about driving on the left, we learned quickly that it wasn’t as hard as we feared. On our next visit we’ll rent again and explore the Atlantic coast on our own. This visit, along with being convenient for getting groceries and going to restaurants, our little rental car allowed us to explore the market at Holders Hill, beautiful Bridgetown and so much more.

This brings us to our next instagrammable location in Barbados: Bridgetown.

4. Bridgetown

Bridgetown is the islands’ capital city and filled with historical, cultural and political images. There are so many varying instagrammable sights to photograph.

Whether it’s wandering the boardwalk, seeing the Jolly Roger party boat at dock, visiting the Independence Gate or the historical Parliament Building, there are so many options for your Instagram feed and stories.

Don’t forget to wander Swan Street and Broad Street for great photos of these wonderfully colourful shopping streets too!

5. On or In the Caribbean Sea

Ok, so this is vague but one of our favourite instagrammable locations in Barbados is while exploring on the Caribbean Sea. We took a catamaran tour with Sail Calabaza tours but you can also explore the sea on other catamaran tours or just by swimming from the beach.

Our sail along the west coast was not only beautiful, it gave us a lifetime experience of swimming with the sea turtles and exploring sunken ships.

You do not need to be a strong swimmer to enjoy this while visiting Barbados. Sail Calabaza was able to provide us with swim noodles, life vests and snorkel gear. We enjoyed swimming with the turtles in shallow water, visiting ship wrecks close to shore and simply enjoying the views of floating on the Caribbean Sea.

You’ll get amazing Instagaram-worthy photos with beautiful Caribbean sea life, photos of you or your family floating above the shipwrecks, pictures of you floating along the sea while seated at the front of a catamaran (perhaps even sitting in that front seat with the wind blowing through your hair) and amazing photos of the shoreline as you float past.

6. Beaches of the West Coast of Barbados

We stayed on the west coast of the island but if you’re staying elsewhere, this is absolutely one place you have to go because it’s definitely one of the most instagrammable locations in Barbados.

Whether it be during day or evening, the beaches of the west coast are absolutely stunning. You’ll find long beaches, light waves, stunning views and in the evening, the most amazing sunsets you’ve ever seen.

Summary of the Best Instagrammable Places in Barbados:

As you explore Barbados, you’ll experience more beautiful sights than you can ever imagine. The waves crashing on the beautiful beaches, the sunsets sparkling across the sea, the sun poking through the palm trees, the monkeys playing in the trees and on the grass, the bright fish swimming close to shore … everything you can imagine is there. Just waiting for you!

Don’t miss these amazing instagrammable locations on your visit to Barbados.

A Few Pointers:

  • Relax and enjoy. You’re guaranteed to get some incredible Instagram-worthy pictures of Barbados. And you don’t need to be a professional photographer! Sydney has loved photography for years but she’s just now getting into planning outings just for photography. Her pictures of Barbados are gorgeous!
  • Where ever you go in Barbados, make sure to bring your camera. This can be your phone, a point and shoot or a DSLR. Just make sure you have something you like to capture that perfect Barbados shot that you’ll always remember and your Instagram followers will love.
  • You’ll want to consider bringing an underwater camera to Barbados. I have an Olympus TG-4 that I just love. It’s an underwater point and shoot camera that takes fantastic underwater pictures. It’s also my go-to camera when our family visits the beach or travels by boat so I don’t need to be concerned about it being splashed with water.
  • Take lots of photos while enjoying your holiday in Barbados. Some of my favourite pictures of Barbados are those that I didn’t plan.

This looks so inviting! I don’t know why but still haven’t made it to this island which I’ve heard so much about. Your pics are calling my name, especially the cave pics. What a great way to enjoy the water!

What gorgeous spots! I for sure will definitely be in the ocean capturing photographs of the incredible marine life! But also, the Animal Flower Cave looks spectacular. Such amazing rugged scenery with all those cliffs, rocks and waves. Barbados would be an incredible place to visit and very picturesque with plenty of good spots for the ‘gram!

I love how diverse Barbados is! It’s not somewhere that I’ve been but I’d definitely explore it. I’ll have to bring a waterproof camera with me though!

These are lovely pictures that bring alive the spirit and beauty of Barbados. Each place looks enchanting, but the Flower Caves seemed to grab my attention. The views from the interior of the caves are so beautiful.

That’s a beautiful set of picture to inspire the Instagrammer in all of us. I really love the rock like a curled wave, and that you can almost see the sea breeze from observing the angle of the palms. And those shots in the cave are glorious. The palette at sunset is so pretty too. Great call on the underwater camera too; I’ve yet to give my GoPro its first bath, but you’ve inspired me!

Barbados is perfect for getting those perfect insta shots! I love though how there is much more than just the standard beach, you’ve got history and culture too as well as the rugged coastline.

Ditto on the underwater camera. It’s a totally worthwhile investment, and better than just getting underwater housing for a regular camera!
