Tapas is delicious and mouth-wateringly wonderful! And we’re going to tell you where to find some of the best tapas in Seville!

I have to admit, we were a little intimidated by the idea of eating tapas. We had never been to a tapas restaurant at home and despite my research, I had no idea how to go about ordering. In the end, I shouldn’t have been at all concerned. Tapas is amazing! And the more you try it, the better and easier it is! The kids learned their favourites and were open to trying a little bit of everything we ordered. John and I just loved being able to order small dishes of such variety and being able to taste such incredible local dishes. I can’t wait to return to find more places to try amazing tapas in Seville!!

We had a wonderful 3 days in Seville (5 days if you include our day trips from Seville!). Each and every day we enjoyed delicious tapas. Even better, our one and only food tour to date was an incredible tapas tour where our fantastic guides introduced us to some of the best tapas in Seville. We’ll start with these wonderful gems as it was here that we learned so much about these delicious little bites.

Where to find the Best Tapas in Seville

Mercado de Triana

mercado de triana best tapas in seville

The Mercado de Triana is located on Calle San Jorge at the end of the Puente de Isabel II. Its’ ground floor is home to the remnants of the former Castello San Jorge. Today’s market is not only filled with wonderful sellers of vegetables, fish and meat, but it also has a cooking school and some of the best locations for tapas in Seville.

This is where we found Abaceria Altozano

This was our first exposure to tapas in Seville. Those working at Abaceria Altozano were incredible patient with us. All of us, including the kids, thoroughly enjoyed the mojama (dried tuna), pinchos de bacalao (cod fish with salmon eggs on toast), bolsitas vegetales (small pastries filled with veggies) and the aveso manchego con marmelada de patata (wonderful manchego cheese with a sweet potato marmalade).

Casa Cuesta

Casa Cuesta is located directly next to the Mercado de Triana on Calle Castilla and it was the second stop on our tour of the best tapas in Seville.

It is here that we started to get a little more adventurous! We would have never ordered the carillada con patatas (pork cheeks with potatoes) on our own but it was wonderful. We also likely wouldn’t have ordered vegetarian dishes such as pisto con huevos (stewed zucchini, eggplant and peppers in tomato sauce with an egg on top), berenjenas con miel (fried eggplant with honey) or espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chick peas) but each and every tapas we tried were absolutely delicious. It opened our eyes to new experiences which, I guess, is one of the reasons we often hire private guides.

Las Golondrinas

The final stop on our tapas tour in Seville was at Las Golondrinas, just a three minute walk from the Mercado de Triana. We sat at a wonderful, airy sidewalk table and enjoyed some of the best tapas in Seville as the processional for the annual festival of Velá de Santa Ana, the patron saint of Triana, meandered through the narrow cobblestone streets.

While enjoying the night air we devoured the ponta de solomillo (grilled pork tenderloin), zanahorias marinadas (marinated carrots) and champiñones con salsa de ajo (mushrooms with garlic and parsley sauce).

We had eaten so much by this point that it was nice to have such a relaxing final stop where we could simply enjoy the warm evening.

us and seville guides on seville tapas tour

Once we experienced our tapas tour, we were open to experimenting on our own! We found some amazing tapas restaurants throughout Andalusia during the following 12 days but some of the best were in Seville! Here are our favourites!

Taberna Alvero Peregil

This small little tapas place is located at Calle Mateos Gago, 22, not far from the Seville Cathedral and the Royal Alcazar of Seville.

The food was delicious! Lucas loved the goat cheese and I loved the orange wine. I wish I had taken more notes like I had during the tapas tour!

La Bartola

Located at Calle San Jose 24, La Bartola is in the heart of Seville’s Santa Cruz neighbourhood. No reservations were possible during our visit so you take your chances that a table will be available but we arrived close to 18:00 and were able to be seated.

The high ratings of this wonderful little tapas restaurant are well deserved! If I had to choose, I would say that La Bartola is our favourite tapas location in Seville. The menu is small but the plates are fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. Try the zucchini flowers!!

La Corona

This little spot is a little off the beaten path but for us, the location on Calle Zaragoza was perfect as it was close to our apartment. That said, it is really only a five to ten minute walk from the Seville Cathedral. Like so many of places to find the best tapas in Seville, the prices were more than reasonable. We really enjoyed their nachos with pico de gallo and guacamole and amazing patatas bravas.

Have you been to the south of Spain? We’d love to hear about your favourite tapas restaurants in Seville!!

You can’t visit Spain without enjoying tapas, especially because Spaniards eat dinner so late at night! We visited Madrid and Barcelona and the tapas were a major highlight of our day.

What I especially appreciated was the wide variety of tapas on offer … so even though my husband and I don’t eat scavengers (like pork and shrimp), we found plenty of great things to eat. I’d never tried eating fava beans on their own before, for instance. We also thought it was a great introduction to Spanish wines. 😉

Spain is on my bucket list for sure and I love exploring with a local. Looks like you got to experience a lot of the local favorites and each dish sounds even more appetizing than the next!

Each dish sounds more amazing than the last. I can’t believe how adventurous your kids were – only one of mine would have been so open to this wonderful experience. I’m glad you mentioned having a guide to open you to new flavors. I wouldn’t have thought of hiring a guide for a tapas tour but it makes sense that they would encourage you to push outside of your comfort zone. I wouldn’t mind trying the zucchini flowers. Great suggestions!

Getting a tour is definitely a great way to find those lesser-known spots to tourists. I love tapas and it’s nice to hear that the prices were reasonable. Some of the food you tried really does sound like you need to be a little adventurous 🙂 I LOOOVE pico de Gallo and guacamole so I definitely would want to go that tapas estabslishement.

We visited Seville many years ago, and also had fantastic food there. It’s true that the best tapas can be tasted at the local mercados. Now reading your blog, we hope that we can visit Seville again soon. And when we do, we’ll certainly consider trying out La Bartola!

Love, love Seville. Such a beautiful city and wandering around at dusk and eating tapas is definitely one of the best travel experiences I’ve had. My other favourite place for tapas is Saint Sebastian in the north. Such a great tradition.

[…] Want to know a secret? This is the only food tour we’ve ever done! They are super popular but with Sydney’s allergies, we’ve just avoided them. But I was so intimidated by the idea of ‘tapas’ that I thought the best way to learn everything about it (including how to order!) was to do a tour. And it was incredible!! We visited several places and learned so much. If you’re going to do a tour, we highly recommend doing a tapas tour in Seville. […]
